Everyone knows the amazing health benefits of Kombucha. With the advancement of technology, we are able to “wear Kombucha” and absorb its nourishing benefits by our bodies. This sustainable material is unlike many engineered smartwear that provides benefits to the body using electronic power or sensors, it provides many benefits naturally. This wearable seaweed technology is called SeaCell™. So you may wonder, what is SeaCell™ fabric exactly?

SeaCell™ is made of brown algae, or Ascophyllum Nodossum found in the ocean. In simple words, it is made by mixing seaweed and cellulose to create yarn for the textiles. The fabric is manufactured with Modal Technology using a small proportion of the plant-based powder mixed with cellulose fibre, making it biodegradable and renewable. SeaCell™ is slowly rising in the sustainable high-tech fabric industry and is adopted by many high street and luxury brands.

SeaCell™ feels light, breathe-able and silky soft. The fabric is also therapeutic because of its anti-inflammatory properties, natural vitamins, and minerals such as calcium, magnesium and vitamin E. If you are sensitive to fabrics materials like polyester, this innovation may be a good option.

How To Buy SeaCell Fabric?

Here is a tip for everyone. Make sure you read the materials section carefully before purchasing to understand how “effective” and sustainable the garment is. Not all clothing are made with 100% SeaCell™ fabric.

Nanonic Incorporated, the company behind the invention of the material, provides two options for you to choose: SeaCell™ for the all the above-mentioned effects of the seaweed; SeaCell™ Active, a nano-silver fortified version of the original for improved effectiveness on odor omission, anti-microbial. However it is known that nano-silver components may harm micro-bacterias in the soil once recycled via water waste.
