TCL unveiled three new AR/VR products at CES 2023: TCL RayNeo X2, TCL NXTWEAR V, and TCL NXTWEAR S, and we believe the company is on route to setting the stage for cutting-edge wearable display experiences.
TCL needs no introduction; it has been a well-known brand in consumer electronics for years. In the past few years, the company has been experimenting with innovative ideas in augmented and virtual reality, unveiling products that offer far more than just 4K ultra HD. Below we cover the main features of the new products and how they may raise the bar for wearable display experiences.
TCL RayNeo X2 AR glasses
TCL RayNeo X2 features a chunky frame that promises prescription inserts for myopes. If you wear prescription glasses, you don’t need to put them under your RayNeo X2. The frame is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor (also found in Meta Quest 2 VR headset) with 28 GB storage and 6 GB RAM. It offers all-in-one assistant features, including auto-translation and smart navigation.
According to the company, TCL RayNeo X2 is the world’s first binocular, full-color, holographic optical waveguide micro LED display. Its micro LED display has a 100,000:1 contrast ratio and image brightness of up to 1,000 nits.
The company’s CEO, Howie Li describes RayNeo X2’s technology as “the world’s first binocular full-color Micro-LED optical waveguide AR glasses that will set the bar for future innovations in wearable AR as there is no compromise in top technology, style or ease of use. RayNeo X2 is the new frontier of AR glasses, and we’re just getting started.”
TCL RayNeo X2 currently does not have a launch date.
TCL NXTWEAR S smart glasses
While TCL RayNeo X2 is designed as a developer platform for rigorous experimentation with augmented reality, the TCL NXTWEAR S will hit the shelves for US consumers in the first quarter of 2023 at $399.
Will it be worth the price? It seems so. The product is one of the highly anticipated TCL innovations in wearable display experiences in 2023. Plug it into a device such as your computer or phone, and the system will project the content onto the glass, making it look like it’s appearing on a giant screen. There’s a 1080p micro OLED display for each eye which turns into a 30-inch screen display when viewed from a four-meter distance. Additionally, it features a directional speaker, has multi-device compatibility, and is TUV low Blue light certified.
TCL NXTWEAR V, a standalone VR headset
The third TCL product does not have a launch date either and is still in its concept phase. So far, we know it will be a VR display capable of reproducing realistic colors. It will feature a custom display panel made by TCL, a headset with passthrough cameras, 4K displays (1512 pixels per inch), and a 108-degree field of view, while weighing only 236 grams. If launched, TCL NXTWEAR V will also feature two torch controllers.
